What does Job Corps stand for? ›

Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16-24 improve the quality of their lives by empowering them to get great jobs and become independent.

Job Corps is the largest nationwide residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 50 years.

There are four Job Corps campuses in North Carolina: Kittrell, Lyndon B. Johnson (in Franklin), Oconaluftee (in Cherokee) and Schenck (in Pisgah Forest).

The U.S. Department of Labor's Job Corps program has launched a summer recruitment drive in Oregon, offering immediate openings and free career training in the nation's leading industries for 16- through 24-year-olds from low-income households.

May I leave Job Corps if I don't like it? Yes. No one will force you to stay if you're not happy at Job Corps. You must be committed to the program to benefit from it.

Do I get paid while I am at Job Corps? Throughout your training, you will receive a biweekly basic living allowance. As your training progresses, your living allowance will increase. After you graduate, Job Corps can help you get started on your journey with a transition allowance.

Regardless of where you live during your Job Corps experience, we'll make sure to provide everything you need to succeed in your training and education goals. When you live at Job Corps, you can expect: Being assigned a dorm (male and female dorms are separate) and having at least one or more roommates.

A student cannot be enrolled in Job Corps for more than two years, except in the following circ*mstances: a. An enrollment extension may be granted for a period not to exceed one additional calendar year in order for a student to complete an advanced career training (ACT) or advanced training (AT) program. b.

At least 16 and not more than 24 years of age. Meets low-income criteria. Meets specific barriers to education and employment. Complies with the requirements of the Military Selective Service Act.
